Review scores at launch

Metacritic lists the game with an October 23, 2026 release date, but its critic and user score fields were empty when we checked on launch day. We found no OpenCritic page with scores either. Review copies and embargo times were not announced publicly. Scores usually start to appear in the days after release.

Steam showed no user reviews before the game unlocked. Steam's review summary only appears once enough buyers post a review. We will add the first scores to this page as they are published. Until then, be careful with any site that quotes a score.

What the game actually offers

Clans of the Forest is a turn-based RPG developed by Bamtang Games and published by Trailmark Games. You create an original cat, join ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan or WindClan, and play that Clan's own story campaign in the Lake Territories. Daily Clan life includes hunting, exploration, quests and crafting.

Battles are turn-based with up to three cats per side and 75 unlockable moves. The three listed modes are Prophecy, Defender and Skirmish. Online play is asynchronous, with Skirmish battles and camp visits rather than live co-op. It launches on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2 on the same day.

What fans are worried about

Before launch, the Steam community discussions were split. Some players were excited to finally get an official Warrior Cats RPG on PC and consoles. Others advised waiting for reviews, pointing to the developer's earlier licensed games. These are opinions, not tested verdicts.

Common questions included whether you can take a mate, raise kits or play as a medicine cat. Official material confirms Clan roles and an apprentice-to-warrior journey, but not every feature fans hoped for. Check our guides before buying if one feature matters most to you.

Should you buy now or wait?

Buy now if you are a Warriors book fan who mainly wants a story RPG set in the Clans, and a turn-based battle system sounds fun. The Standard Edition is the lowest-risk choice. The Feral Edition only adds the Prophecy Pack cosmetics.

Wait if you want live online play with friends, or if performance on your system matters. That matters most on the original Switch. Early user reviews on your platform's store will show bugs and performance problems faster than critic reviews. Steam's refund rules also give PC players a safety net.

  • Fan of the books who wants a story RPG: buying at launch is reasonable.
  • Want live co-op with friends: wait, only asynchronous online play is confirmed.
  • Original Switch owner: wait for performance impressions.
  • Unsure about turn-based combat: watch gameplay footage first.
